Tom Brady and Steph Curry could face legal trouble over FTX endorsements
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady seemingly can't catch a break.
From his divorce from Gisele Bundchen to the Buccaneers' poor season, it's been a tough time for the seven-time Super Bowl champion. Now the 45-year-old has hit another snag in what has been a horror 2022.
Per The Hill, an investor named Edwin Garrison put his money into FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange, and last week filed a lawsuit against the company and its CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.
He argued that high-profile celebrities like Brady and Steph Curry made misrepresentations and omissions that made him invest in the company. Why is that a big deal?
Well, the company filed for bankruptcy and Bankman-Fried resigned after a market crash that saw the company’s investors lose billions. Yikes.
So now, because of the investor's lawsuit, Brady, along with other high-profile celebrities, are being investigated by a Texas regulator for possible violations of security law. The report by The Hill says that there could be heavy fines coming the way of these celebrities.
Crypto probe another blight on a poor 2022 for Tom Brady
The year 2022 will be remembered by Tom Brady as one he would rather forget. He retired and then un-retired just 40 days later, something that led to a strain on his marriage with former supermodel Gisele Bundchen.
To add to that, the Buccaneers' poor form saw them languishing at 3-5. Fast forward a few months and now the quarterback and his wife of 13 years have gone their separate ways. That would be enough to put 2022 in the bin.
However, now we add this new lawsuit to the equation and 2022 is looking real bleak. What started out as a 'Brady is back that's fantastic' is now about wondering what the next few months hold for the GOAT.
Things can still turn around for the 45-year-old though. Tampa Bay has got its groove back somewhat as it has won its last two games to take control of the NFC South.
Making the playoffs could be a serious achievement for the seven-time Super Bowl champ and once there, we all know what he is capable of. But before that, he has the issue of the lawsuit.
