Garrett Wilson makes feelings clear as Jets pull off blockbuster Davante Adams trade
The New York Jets will welcome Davante Adams to their receiving corps in Week 7 when they go up against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football. The franchise pulled off a stunning trade for the Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro on Tuesday morning right after a chastening 23-20 defeat Monday Night Football defeat to the Buffalo Bills.
The Jets gave up a third-round pick that will turn into a second-rounder if Adams makes First-Team or Second-Team All-Pro or if he's on the roster if the Jets make a deep run into the playoffs leading to an AFC Championship Game appearance.
One man whose job will be somewhat in jeopardy after the big move is Garrett Wilson, who has so far been the alpha receiver on the Jets' depth chart. Wilson tweeted out a message in light of the Adams trade, saying:
"We gotta GO, and we gotta do it NOW!"
Fighting words from the member of a team that's currently 2-4 and below the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East standings.
Jets owner Woody Johnson addresses franchise's situation after Davante Adams trade
Woody Johnson was present at the NFL owners meet in Atlanta and addressed reporters who poked around after the franchise pulled off a stunning trade for the All-Pro wideout.
The billionaire owner said that Davante Adams will add to the Jets' running game and will "open up everything," especially considering his relationship with Aaron Rodgers. Johnson also pointed to how important that relationship can be, saying it was evident last night.
The Jets owner also stressed that the franchise is all-in on winning this year, saying:
"I am doing absolutely everything. Everything."
As things stand, per Spotrac figures, the Jets will have to pay Davante Adams a salary of $11.59 million this year ($11.2 million guaranteed, followed by $36.25 million next year (non-guaranteed) and $36.25 million in 2026 (non-guaranteed).
Meanwhile, when all is said and done, the Raiders will have given up a first-round pick and a second-rounder in addition to $56 million in cash for 37 games of Davante Adams in Sin City.
