Giants’ Dexter Lawrence fires back after poor grading compared to Cowboys rookie
Giants nose tackle Dexter Lawrence fired back after PFF posted his grading against rookie Cowboys center Cooper Beebe. They posted on X that the rookie had allowed no pressure on 22 pass-blocking snaps for Dallas against New York.
Quote-tweeting that, Dexter Lawrence said that such statistics should not be hyped and posted a GIF of a butt-whooping. He wrote,
"Don’t hype this he know how the game went.."
Cooper Beebe's case against Giants stalwart Dexter Lawrence helped by Cowboys QB Dak Prescott
Dexter Lawrence probably would have pointed to the plethora of penalties to show that what PFF put out was a misleading figure. For example, in the first half alone, Dallas lost 70 yards on nine penalties. But what helped Cooper Beebe in the game against the Giants is that Dak Prescott was in inspired form when throwing the ball quickly.
As Next Gen Stats reported, the Cowboys quarterback managed to get the ball out under 2.5 seconds of 14 throws and 13 of them resulted in completions for 143 yards and two touchdowns. With production numbers this high, automatically the blitz and the pressure would have been dialed back with coverage in the secondary increased. That would have made pressure blocking easier as a unit for Dallas' offensive line.
But that is not to say that Cooper Beebe is not transitioning into an elite center as a rookie. It is particularly noteworthy as he used to play as a guard in his college days and almost has had to learn a new position at the highest level on the fly.
Dexter Lawrence, on the other hand, could say that he got two tackles in the game even though a sack eluded him. He can also pin the loss on the Giants' offense struggling to get going as their defensive unit restricted the Cowboys to fewer yards and time on the ground. It was abysmal red zone conversion that was the major contributory factor in their defeat.
Overall, the butt-whooping Dexter Lawrence is referring to can be seen in the stats for the game. New York outgained Dallas by 303 to 293 yards and restricted the Cowboys to just 24:23 seconds of possessions while having the ball for 35:37 seconds. The Cowboys also had 11 penalties for a loss of 89 yards compared to the Giants conceding just four for 35.
In the end, Dexter Lawrence's post looks worse for Daniel Jones and New York's offense than it looks for Cooper Beebe and anyone collected with Dallas.
