Giants fans fully on board with Brian Daboll's major coaching decision: "Daniel Jones Comeback Player of the Year"
As Brian Daboll enters his third season as the head coach of the New York Giants, he knows the team's performance could impact his future as a head coach. Daboll, who has been an offensive coordinator for most of his NFL coaching career told ESPN reporter Jordan Raanan on Tuesday that he will be calling plays on offense this season for the team.
"Yeah, I'm doing it," Daboll said.
Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka has called plays on offense the last two seasons for the Giants. Daboll hinted at potentially taking over play-calling duties in March. In July, wide receiver Darius Slayton said that Daboll was participating in more of the offensive meetings this offseason.
In an interview with SNY in June, Kafka spoke about potentially being less involved in the offesne and play-calling. He said that his prior experience in Kansas City under Andy Reid was similar and that he supports Daboll completely.
After Daboll announced that he would be calling offensive plays for the Giants, fans had mixed opinions on social media. Some fans think that Daboll taking on paly calling duties will improve the offense's production.
Here's how fans reacted:
"Giants are playoff bound once again!" one fan Tweeted.
"New OL coach + Daboll calling plays is awesome," a fan said.
"He should, as he’s on the hot seat," one fan said.
While some fans like the idea of Daboll calling plays, others don't think he'll make a difference. Some fans aren't confident in quarterback Daniel Jones, while others think the Giants have many other problems on the team.
Fans also pointed out that Daboll is likely on the hot seat this season and that by taking action in deciding to call plays, he is trying to save his job.
Here's how other fans reacted:
"Ok? And this matters how? They’re still gonna suck," a fan said.
"I don’t care who’s calling the plays if Daniel Jones is behind center," a fan wrote.
"Yeah, that wasn’t the issue," a fan said.
