Giants icon Lawrence Taylor arrested in Florida over alleged s*x-offender violation

New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor has found himself in controversy. Earlier this week, the two-time Super Bowl winner was arrested in Florida for an unreported name and residence change as a sex offender. This is the second time this has happened, as he was also arrested in December 2021 for the same.

According to a TMZ report, Lawrence Taylor had an outstanding felony warrant against him for failing to report his residence change and name. On Wednesday, Taylor turned himself in at the Broward County court and was released the following morning at around 3 a.m.

After the arrest and release, his attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, made an official statement. Eiglarsh said Taylor pleaded "not guilty" and expressed that the legal situation was nothing more than a misunderstanding.

"My client, Lawrence Taylor, will be pleading ‘Not Guilty’ to the recent charges. As with the previous incident involving the same allegations, Mr. Taylor did not knowingly commit any criminal offense," Eiglarsh said via TMZ.
"This situation is a significant misunderstanding. We are confident that, once the prosecutors review the exculpatory evidence demonstrating Mr. Taylor’s innocence, he will once again achieve a favorable outcome."

Lawrence Taylor pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor criminal charges in 2011

In 2011, Lawrence Taylor pleaded guilty to charges of soliciting a prostitute and sexual misconduct, which came after he was arrested for felony statutory rape. According to the New York Post, Taylor claimed at that time that the girl said she was 19 and not 16. Taylor had to register as a sex offender, and his failure to report name and residence changes has now led to his arrest on two occasions.

Taylor also has a history of legal problems revolving around his marriage and alleged sexual abuse. In 2016, he settled an agreement after hitting a police vehicle while driving his car in an impaired condition. Moreover, Taylor also experienced legal battles in his former marriage to Lynette Taylor, who was arrested on the count of domestic violence against the former Giant.
