"Had to get my head out of my a**": Davante Adams gets frank about 0 catches in first half vs Jaguars
Davante Adams posted a vintage performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday to lead the New York Jets to only their fourth win of the season. The veteran wide receiver finished the game with nine receptions for 198 yards and two touchdowns after being targeted 12 times.
What made that performance more impressive is that Adams recorded zero receptions in the first half. During a conversation with Kay Adams on the "Up & Adams" show on Tuesday, Davante talked about his discreet first half, explaining the process of bouncing back in the second half.
"I guess I had to get my head out of my a** first and that helps when you do that. I had a drop earlier before the first half. And I got my hair pulled on the route so when I pulled my head back I couldn't really find the ball. Once we got back in there and got a few grabs stuff like this just begins to happen. Just need a few plays to unlock it," Adams said.
The New York Jets scored 10 and 15 points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, after scoring only seven in the first and entering halftime trailing 13-6. Davante Adams played a key role in that turnaround, helping Aaron Rodgers complete a 289-yard and three-touchdown afternoon. The Jets improved to 4-10, ending a four-game skid.
They'll finish the 2024 season with three games against complicated opponents, starting on Sunday against the LA Rams. The last two matchups will be against AFC East rivals, the first going against the Buffalo Bills before hosting the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium.
Davante Adams explains what Jets are playing for at this point in the season
Besides talking about his impressive performance against the Jaguars, Davante Adams also touched on the challenges the Jets are facing the rest of the season and what they're playing for in the last three weeks.
"We play for our pride is there's no tanking or no, you know, let's try to get a draft pick or any of that mindset. I'd never be that type of player. So, you know, if I was ever putting that type of situation, there's no way I could be a part of the organization that thinks that way. So for us, it's about getting out there and doing whatever we got to do," he said.
After extending their playoff drought to 14 years, the Jets have several questions to answer in the offseason.
