Hall of Famer Brett Favre sends prayers for Bears' Douglas Coleman III with NFL CB immobilized, hospitalized
Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre seemingly tuned in for the Week 3 preseason opener where the Chicago Bears went up against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. While the Bears eventually picked up a 34-21 win on Thursday night, one major event marred what would have been a routine preseason game for both teams.
On the first play from scrimmage in the second half, Bears corner Douglas Coleman III tackled Chiefs receiver Cornell Powell after a 9-yard gain. However, Coleman came out the worse and was reportedly immobile. Coleman had to be carried off on a stretcher with his Bears teammates huddling around him, anxious for an update.
As the clip of the tackle made the rounds on social media platform X, Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre tweeted:
"Prayers for this young man from the Bears."
Favre added in another post:
"Sometimes you can take a big hit and nothing happens. Other times, the most basic taklce could have a rippling effect. You just never know."
Douglas Coleman III injury update: Where is Bears CB now?
Coleman was taken off the Arrowhead field in an ambulance. Bears head coach Matt Eberflus later told reporters that Coleman had some movement in his limbs and also gave a thumbs-up to his fellow players and coaches before being carted off the field.
Coleman, 26, seemingly came darting in on the tackle. However, the awkward nature of his neck upon impact served to ring alarm bells near the Chiefs sideline. The Bears corner will be further evaluated at a local hospital.
Bears' 2024 schedule in the spotlight
The Bears will have just under two weeks to wrap up their preseason prep before they suit up for Week 1 at home when the Tennessee Titans come to town. The Bears have a relatively smoother schedule to kick off the Caleb Williams era.
After hosting the Titans, the Bears will face the Texans (at Houston), the Colts (in Indy), the Rams and the Panthers (at home). Their Week 6 schedule will see them jet off to London to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars before settling in for a bye week.
