"He was called to heaven today" - When Patrick Mahomes' wife Brittany lost her stepdad after he collapsed at a Chiefs game
Patrick Mahomes' wife Brittany might as well be as famous as the Kansas City Chiefs star. Always candid and heartfelt with fans, Brittany has been known to share personal moments on social media, whether good or bad. A few years ago, Brittany shared details about her stepfather's death.
Her stepdad, Paul Matthews, collapsed while waiting to enter Arrowhead Stadium for a Chiefs game in 2018. Unfortunately, he was unable to recover and passed away. Brittany's Instagram post was an emotional tribute, trying to take a slightly positive attitude toward the loss.
However, the 2018 post is no longer available on her Instagram. That day, Patrick Mahomes missed the team's postgame conference due to a medical emergency. He later revealed that he was told about the incident by Chiefs coach Andy Reid "in the tunnel after the game." Paul, who was reportedly entering the stadium alongside Mahomes' father, was taken to a nearby hospital but couldn't survive.
Brittany wrote about her loss in the caption of the 2018 post:
“Today is a day I will never forget! Directly after this picture I sprinted to the front entrance to see my stepdad passed out! He did not come back from this and he was called to heaven today! I KNOW 100 percent he is so happy up there with his kids looking down on us cheering loud that his chiefs won today!”
She added:
“Thank you everyone for the prayers and sweet text! We will miss you Paul So So So Much! I will take care of mom for you!”
Brittany and Patrick Mahomes now have a small family of four
Since 2018, Patrick and Brittany have only grown, having tied the knot earlier this year in March. The couple is proud parents to two children: Sterling and Bronze. While their daughter Sterling will turn two next year, Bronze was born a few weeks ago.
While they have changed quite a bit, Brittany's consistent social media updates and support for her husband remain the same. Fans were a part of every milestone, including the kids' gender reveal and birth.
Recently, Brittany also hyped up Patrick Mahomes, hoping for him to win the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. The honor represents a player's impact on the field, along with their reach in the community.
Mahomes has been loved by NFL fans, especially those in Kansas. The Chiefs QB and Brittany continue to give back, both on and off the field.
With Bronze just born, Brittany is yet to share any recent photos of herself or the baby. However, considering Sterling's gameday outfits, Bronze already has matching ones put together by their mother.
Of course, as the season progresses, one can only expect more updates from Brittany's end.
