"He hasn't done anything worth mentioning": Former Eagles LB goes off over Josh Allen's 'desperate' need of NFL MVP
Emmanuel Acho dropped a critique that can cut deep into Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen's MVP aspirations, challenging the narrative of Allen's rising stardom. On Wednesday's edition of "The Facility," the former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker said:
"Josh desperately needs to win MVP this year. Right now, you can tell the story of the National Football League without ever mentioning Josh Allen's name, and that's a problem. ... But you don't ever have to mention Josh Allen because he hasn't done anything worth mentioning as it pertains to the story of the NFL."
Contrary to Acho's dismissal, the current MVP landscape tells a different story. Allen leads the MVP rankings.
ESPN's Dan Graziano reported a significant transformation in Allen's leadership. After veterans like Tre'Davious White and Jordan Poyer departed, Allen stepped up. He's now more connected with teammates, understanding receiver preferences and building cross-unit relationships.
Acho's "Cool, he lost to Patrick Mahomes" jab in the show does not seem aligned when examining Allen's trajectory. While Mahomes leads with four fourth-quarter comebacks, Josh Allen is proving he's more than a statistical footnote.
Josh Allen's MVP race
The 2024 NFL MVP race is a battlefield of quarterback brilliance. Allen stands toe-to-toe with elite competition like Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff.
His credentials are impressive. Allen ranks 14th with 2,691 passing yards and eighth with 334 rushing yards. He's tied for sixth with 20 touchdown passes and boasts a total QBR of 74.5. Most critically, he's the only quarterback with passing, receiving and rushing touchdowns in a single game this season.
Allen has six rushing touchdowns, tied with Commanders rookie Jayden Daniels for the most by a quarterback this season.
The Bills' performance amplifies Allen's MVP case. They've scored 30+ points in six straight games and won seven consecutive matchups. Their 10-2 record puts them just one game behind the Chiefs for the AFC's top playoff seed.
His MVP-defining moment came against the San Francisco 49ers. Allen executed a jaw-dropping hook-and-ladder play, catching a pass from Amari Cooper and diving into the end zone. He followed this with a rushing touchdown.
