"He's completely sucked the air out of the building": Former Jets QB gets candid on Aaron Rodgers
The New York Jets, with Aaron Rodgers this season, were supposed to be one of the best teams in the NFL. After Rodgers made a full recovery from his torn Achilles last season, many thought the Jets would be legit Super Bowl contenders with the veteran under center.
So far, the Jets have been anything but Super Bowl contenders. Through nine games, they boast a 3-7 record and are tied for third place in the AFC East division. The team has made moves such as firing coach Robert Saleh, getting Haason Reddick on the field and trading for wide receiver Davante Adams.
Nothing has worked.
Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason spoke candidly on WFAN about how Aaron Rodgers has "sucked the air" out of the building.
"I hate to say, it’s like Aaron Rodgers has completely sucked the air out of the building," Esiason said. "And I think so many guys are deferring to in their minds. In their minds, in my mind, he is a first-ballot Hall-of-Fame player; one of the great quarterbacks when he was in his prime that we have ever seen.
"Very few people throw the ball like him... Since he’s come here over the last two years, every player on this team, I feel like, has deferred everything to him."
Esiason continued:
"And the reason I say that is because Russell Wilson said something about Mike Williams yesterday. And it was being reported during the game that when Mike Williams showed up to Pittsburgh, he showed up with such a big smile — and he was so happy.
"Like, he was so unencumbered by playing for the Jets, with the Jets, for Aaron Rodgers, that he makes the game-winning touchdown catch over his left shoulder in an amazing sequence of events."
At 3-7, NFL website gives Aaron Rodgers' New York Jets just a 13% chance of making the playoffs
At 3-7, the New York Jets are not in a good position to make the postseason.
The Buffalo Bills, at 8-2, have a comfortable lead in the AFC East, and barring a complete disaster, they should win their division.
Per the NFL website, the Jets have a 13% chance to make the postseason. They currently sit as the 11-seed in the AFC, being "outside of the bubble." Luckily for them, the three teams in front of them (Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts) are only one game above them.
Luckily for the Jets, they have a relatively easier schedule to close out their seven games. They'll face the Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins.
Do you think the Jets will do enough to clinch a playoff berth?
