"His day'll come": Jalen Hurts reveals clause in contract holding him back from answering ex-President Obama's playful taunts

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts spent the day on a golf course with Saquon Barkley and former President Barack Obama. Only he wasn't golfing. Barkley and Obama, on the other hand, had a great time on the golf course.

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Hurts revealed that the ex-President engaged in a bit of trash talk about golf, but he was unable to respond to them due to a clause in his contract.

"To see him out there enjoying himself and talking a little trash, that was cool," Hurts said. "I told him he didn't want these problems just yet. I told him I can't golf right now. It's my contract, I can't golf. But his day'll come."

When asked by reporters the reason behind the strange clause, he said that he would reveal the reason later.

Jalen Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million contract extension with the Eagles last year. It's not unusual for certain contracts, specifically for top stars, to have clauses that prevent them from playing other sports to minimize the risk of injury.

Jalen Hurts speaks his mind on frequent benching of young QBs

Earlier this week, Anthony Richardson of the Indianapolis Colts was benched in favor of veteran QB Joe Flacco. And on the Carolina Panthers, QB Bryce Young was recently elevated to starting QB after spending the past few games on the bench with Andy Dalton nursing a thumb injury.

Jalen Hurts reacted to this frequent benching of young QBs and said that he would not have been the player he is today if he had not taken advantage of every opportunity that came his way.

The Eagles QB was drafted in the NFL Draft of 2020 as Carson Wentz's backup. But the veteran QB was benched and he was promoted to the starting role. He said that young QBs should also take advantage of every opportunity they get.

"I have a ton of respect for Tom Brady. And you hear him talk a lot of times, taking advantage of your moment. Typically there’s a different leash there, the earlier you’re picked. But nonetheless, nothing’s guaranteed and nothing’s promised. But you have to take advantage of every opportunity that comes."

However, he did not think that it was all gloom and doom for the benched QBs. He pointed out the silver lining in all of this and said that hardships would help them later on.

“And sometimes, adversity builds the appropriate callouses for you to be able to forge a new path and withstand different storms that come your way.”

Jalen Hurts has been playing great football of late after an uneven start. He went 16 of 20 for 236 yards with four touchdowns (three rushing) in the Eagles' 37-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, extending their win streak to three games.
