"Historic overpay" - NFL TikToker explains how Lamar Jackson is jeopardized by Giants' $160M deal

For over a year, Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens have been negotiating a long-term contract for the quarterback. With free agency approaching, Jackson's future with the team remains unclear. After all, they haven't been able to agree on the terms of the deal just yet.

If things remain as they are, Jackson might never play for the Ravens again. Currently, Jackson has received a non-exclusive franchise tag from the team. This allows Jackson to negotiate with other teams and agree upon a deal. The Ravens will ultimately have to match the offer made.

In a recent video, TikTok star Drew Allen linked Jackson's future in Baltimore to the New York Giants' $160 million contract extension with Daniel Jones. Allen didn't mince words, especially as he explained how the deal would dampen Jackson's chances.

"This should go down as an historic overpay in the history of professional football. But the side-effects of this are going to be absolutely ridiculous. The Giants have basically guaranteed that Lamar Jackson will never be a Baltimore Raven every again."

At the end of the day, the Ravens might not be able to offer a deal like Jones'.

"The Ravens aren't gonna wanna match the $6 billion deal the team's gonna have to sign him to because he's that much better than Daniel f***ing Jones".

Allen complimented Jones, referring to him as a 'playmaker.'

"Lamar Jackson is a former MVP. He is a playmaker. A record breaker. All Daniel Jones had to do to earn $40 million a year was try really hard not to be the absolute worst."

Which three teams could Lamar Jackson sign with?

If Jackson doesn't acquire the deal he wants, he might get a trade as the new season approaches. Considering Jackson's popularity, a few teams might be interested in having him aboard.

One option is the New York Jets, who want to sign a new quarterback to replace Zach Wilson. After a quarterback upgrade, the team might have a better chance of competing for the Super Bowl. Apart from Jackson, Aaron Rodgers has also been linked to the Jets.

“So the Daniel Jones contract isn’t that bad. It’s a 4 year deal if he plays well but if he sucks it’s really a 2 year deal. People think he sucks because he only threw 15 TDs last year but he doesn’t”

The Raiders, who have moved on from Derek Carr, need a new quarterback for the upcoming season.

Explaining Lamar Jackson's non-exclusive tag

As mentioned, the Ravens have added a non-exclusive tag for Jackson. Of course, if the team fails to match the offer, the player will be traded for two first-round picks.

Each NFL team has one tag to use on a pending free agent, which in turn helps close a long-term deal or possible extension.

Jackson's non-exclusive tag allows him to negotiate with teams, but an exclusive tag stops players from doing so. This means that if a player is tagged, they will play for the team unless traded.
