Hollywood Brown drops 3-word reaction as Chiefs officially activate WR from IR
The Kansas City Chiefs have activated wide receiver Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown from injured reserve, setting the stage for the wide receiver's season debut in Week 16 against the Houston Texans. His return marks the end of a long recovery journey and injects new energy into a high-stakes NFL playoff race.
Brown suffered a shoulder injury on the first play of his first preseason game for the Chefs. It's a welcome boost for Patrick Mahomes' team, boasting a 13-3 record with an aim to seal the AFC top seed and a first-round bye.
The explosive wideout shared his excitement by dropping a short message on X. Brown tweeted:
"Thank you Jesus".
Chiefs receive huge Super Bowl boost after Hollywood Brown's return from injury
On Thursday morning, multiple outlets confirmed Kansas City's plan to activate Brown if he performs well in practice. He didn't waste the opportunity and now takes Clyde Edwards-Helaire's roster spot, who signed with the New Orleans Saints earlier this week.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid sounded confident in his assessment of Brown’s practice drills.
“He’s done a nice job. I mentioned earlier just about (how) it’s not – it wasn’t his legs, so he’s been able to run and keep himself in running shape. The rest of it where the surgery wasn’t at, he looked good and was doing fine, yeah,” Reid told reporters ahead of the Week 16 match-up against the Texans.
The Chiefs signed free agent Brown, who came back off a season registering 51 catches for 574 yards and three touchdowns for the Cardinals. With the Baltimore Ravens in 2021, he recorded 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns, showcasing his game-changing prowess.
Interestingly, Brown was the Chiefs’ big-name addition this campaign, joining DeAndre Hopkins, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson in the receiving corps. Their top receiver Rashee Rice is out for the season after injuring his knee against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4.
Brown's timely return hands a significant boost to the Chiefs' offense, especially with Mahomes recovering from an ankle sprain. The quarterback reportedly practiced throughout the week and is expected to be ready for the Saturday afternoon clash with the Texans.
As the Chiefs approach a challenging three-game stretch, Brown's return offers an explosive element to their overall offensive setup and a reliable option for Mahomes in close situations.
