"How much help does Herbert need?": Chargers fans react as Cameron Dicker signs $22,004,000 deal
With a little over a week before their 2024 NFL season start, the LA Chargers have reportedly agreed to a contract extension with Cameron Dicker that will keep him on the roster through the 2028 season. The Chargers reached a four-year, $22.004 million agreement with the kicker, which includes $12.5 million guaranteed as per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Dicker is now one of the top five highest-paid kickers in the league.
As usual, fans couldn't resist commenting on this, with one person trying to mock Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.
"HOW MUCH HELP DOES HERBERT NEED!?" one fan wrote.
Others were glad that Dicker got a new deal, even noting that he's getting a lot of money for a kicker while making jokes with his name.
"Dicker the kicker's pockets are getting thicker," one fan said.
"Another kicker getting paid💰," another fan said.
Others didn't waste their chance to try to downplay this contract.
"Dustin Hopkins is better," one fan said.
Cameron Dicker was one of the few good things the Chargers had to show last season. He posted a remarkable campaign, setting the franchise record for the most 50+ yard field goals in a season with seven. He joined the Chargers in the middle of the 2022 season after Dustin Hopkins picked up an injury.
Dicker and Hopkins competed to get the spot last season, beating the guy he originally was signed to replace. The Los Angeles team opted to trade Hopkins to the Cleveland Browns, while Dicker became an attraction at SoFi Stadium.
Jim Harbaugh heaps high praise on Cameron Dicker
Cameron Dicker isn't only a fan-favorite after his impressive 2023 season. Chargers' new head coach, Jim Harbaugh, had nothing but good things to say about him earlier this month.
"I think one of the great virtues on our team is Cameron Dicker," Harbaugh said, via ESPN. "The way he goes about his business, epitomizes confidence, true confidence, and really great at what he does. That's starting to rub off on me.
"... If I could live my life the way Cameron Dicker goes about his, what a fun, enjoyable life that would be."
The Chargers are coming off a terrible season under Brandon Staley. They can bounce back with Harbaugh on the sidelines and Dicker kicking footballs. He boasts a field goal percentage of 94.5, having missed only three field goals in 55 attempts and racking up 215 points.
