How much did Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Chiefs win as Super Bowl LVII prize money?
Patrick Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates are still celebrating their 38-35 triumph over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday. After trailing by 10 points at halftime, the Chiefs roared back to claim their second Lombardi trophy in four years.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts did all he could to get his team over the line but couldn't thanks to Harrison Butker's 27-yard field goal with eight seconds left in the game.
Another neat little tidbit that comes along with winning the NFL's marquee game is that players get a bonus in the form of money. That's right. Despite many players earning huge amounts from their contracts, winning the Super Bowl gives them even more.
Per en.as.com, players from both sides earned a bonus from playing in the Super Bowl. Eagles players earned a cool $82,000 for their appearance, while Chiefs players netted a nice $157.000 for winning the big game.
The best part is that due to NFLPA rules, players will get their money within 15 days. Now, it is likely a small consolation for Eagles players, but at least it's better than nothing, right?
Mahomes and Chiefs secure another Lombardi Trophy
So, while players like Mahomes, Hurts and Travis Kelce along with their teammates got a nice windfall of cash, the real prize was winning the Super Bowl.
For Mahomes, it is his second triumph, and for many, this feat has moved him into Hall of Fame calculations already and it's hard to argue. Having only been in the league for six years, he already has five Pro Bowl selections, is a two-time All-Pro, has a league MVP, is a Super Bowl MVP and has two Super Bowl rings.
That is quite some resume. Keep in mind, he's still just 27 years old as well, so there is plenty of time for him to add to those accolades.
While the money pocketed from winning the Super Bowl is nice, every player would trade that for the chance to be on that stage hoisting the Lombardi Trophy aloft as champions.
