How much will Derek Carr earn in 2023? Fresh report reveals former Raiders QB’s asking price
Free agent quarterback Derek Carr has had a few visits with teams this off-season and has many other suitors interested in signing him. The nine-year quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders was released a day before his $40.4 million roster bonus was due on February 15, 2023.
While some quarterbacks are seeking record-breaking deals (Lamar Jackson) and contracts worth more than their productivity (Daniel Jones), Carr's asking price for a contract has been revealed this morning.
Carr is seeking a contract worth $35 million or more per year, according to ESPN insider Dianna Russini.
If Carr gets paid $35 million this season, he will be the ninth-highest-paid quarterback in the league.
Tom Brady is still under contract for $35.1 million this season, and Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, Ryan Tannehill, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, and Deshaun Watson will earn more than $35 million this season.
Which teams are interested in Derek Carr?
Derek Carr's market is heating up. He's had team visits with the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints.
The Jets are reportedly ready to pull the trigger on signing Carr but are waiting to see if Rodgers is available for a trade or not.
ESPN reporter Dianna Russini joined Get Up and talked about how Carr and the team have a mutual interest.
Russini said:
"But here's the thing. Derek Carr's the one that's got to make the decision on where he wants to play because he does have options and you have to figure from his perspective, he doesn't really need to press right now."
Russini added that Carr will explore all his options, but he is in fact intrigued by New York:
"He doesn't need to be the first quarterback to sign because the kind of contract he's looking for, right guys, you have to figure 35 plus mil a year he's looking for in terms of a deal, which is really fair for a veteran like Derek Carr. Right. So he's going to take a look at all his options before he makes a decision. But I can tell you he does like New York."
Carr also had multiple visits with the New Orleans Saints when he was still with the Raiders. He visited, but a trade was never facilitated as his contract was an issue.
Carr can sign with the team at any time and is expected to choose another team in the coming weeks.
