How Odell Beckham Jr.'s latest video hurts his chances of playing in the NFL playoffs
Odell Beckham Jr. (OBJ) is still looking for a team after his successful Super Bowl-winning run with the Los Angeles Rams last season. He suffered an injury during the game and did not return to the team this season. OBJ was supposed to have plenty of suitors in the 2022 NFL season, but that has not quite materialized.
With the playoffs coming up, he is probably in the last-chance saloon to be picked up by a team. However, if off-field incidents are anything to go by, he may have harmed his chances after reportedly disrupting a November 2022 flight takeoff in Miami.
Now a new video has emerged showing him talking to police officers and refusing to deboard, which then caused the entire aircraft to be deplaned. The flight attendants can be seen telling the officers that they had shaken OBJ multiple times, but he had not woken up.
Watch the video below:
The video shows Odell Beckham Jr. telling the police officers:
"I've never had this happen to me."
The 30-year-old wide receiver can also be seen yelling at a fellow passenger who wanted him to get off the plane:
"You're everything wrong with the world."
The entire incident happened in November last year when he caused a flight to be delayed after allegedly refusing to fasten his seatbelt when requested. As per various reports, the aircraft had to be deplaned after OBJ failed to follow instructions.
At the time, he released a statement through his lawyers blaming "overzealous" flight attendants. He had said that he had fallen asleep without putting his seatbelt on and was willing to do so once he had awoken after the plane came back to the gate.
Will any team sign Odell Beckham Jr. now, given the latest revelations?
With the playoffs coming up next week, this week was perhaps Odell Beckham Jr.'s last shot at getting picked up by a team. He visited multiple facilities in December, but a deal did not ultimately materialize.
One of the teams supposedly interested in him, the Dallas Cowboys, eventually chose T.Y. Hilton over him. It suggested that maybe Odell Beckham Jr. had misestimated his worth. He had commented that the Los Angeles Rams wanted him back at the start of the season but did not offer what he felt he was worth. OBJ believed he would not lack suitors once he got better from his ACL injury, which he suffered in the Super Bowl.
It has not panned out quite that way. Additionally, with the burden of his off-field controversy now seen on camera, fewer playoff teams might be willing to take a chance on him. With just one year removed from his greatest exploits on the football field, it seems that he might be spending his time watching the playoffs from home instead.
