How has Patrick Mahomes evolved since his last Super Bowl loss?
Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be competing in his third Super Bowl this Sunday when he faces the Philadelphia Eagles on February 12th.
He will be competing for his second Super Bowl victory in a four-year span. He won his first Super Bowl vs. the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31-20. He led the Chiefs back the following season but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 31-9.
During media interviews this week, Mahomes was interviewed by legend Michael Irvin. When asked if he learned more from his Super Bowl win or loss, Mahomes responded by saying the loss for sure, and that losing feeling is one he'll never forget.
Mahomes said:
“The loss for sure. The win is amazing — it’s one of the best moments of your entire life, and you take away all the positives from that. But that loss — that stings. That motivates you for years. That’s what it’s done for me. It’s motivated me to be back in this game again — and I want to make sure I can have that winning feeling and not that losing feeling. Because that losing feeling is one you’ll never forget.”
Patrick Mahomes gives an update on the status of his ankle
Patrick Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain in the divisional round against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played two weeks ago against the Bengals in the AFC championship and it didn't seem to bother him.
When asked about how his ankle feels, he responded that he won't know until he's out on the field and he's still going to leave it all on the line.
Mahomes said:
"You won't know until you get out there in the game. I'm gonna push it. I'll try to leave it all on the line. I think you all saw that in the last game that I played. But it's about relying on your teammates -- and I got a lot of great teammates around me -- and not trying to do too much. But I'll definitely be in a better spot than I was last game."
Mahomes has had three weeks to recover from the injury and should appear healthier in the Super Bowl. If he doesn't re-aggravate it, he and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts could put on one of the best dual-threat performances in Super Bowl history.
