How will Donald Trump's presidency impact the Jets? Insider explains consequences on Woody Johnson's management
The New York Jets could suffer a major change regarding Woody Johnson's management after the 2024 U.S. Presidential election finished. Donald Trump is set to become the next president of the United States after defeating Democratic party candidate Kamala Harris in Tuesday's election, which could have ramifications for the AFC East franchise.
Reporter Connor Hughes noted on Wednesday that if Johnson is named Ambassador to the United Kingdom during Trump's second term, he won't be able to maintain day-to-day control over the NFL franchise and somebody else would be required to take over.
"If Woody Johnson returns as Ambassador to the UK, he cannot maintain day-to-day control of #NYJ. During Trump’s last presidency, Woody’s brother, Christopher, ran the team. Those I touched base with expected the same to happen again, although not finalized. We’ll see."
Hughes added that Christopher Johnson has a good relationship with Jets players and coaches.
"Christopher Johnson is well respected by players and coaches for his authenticity. Those I’ve talked to stress how much they feel he cares for them. Certainly made some mistakes first time around, but many feel he’s learned from them & will be better prepared if given opportunity again," he tweeted.
Jets owner Woody Johnson reportedly donated nearly $2 million to Republican party
Woody Johnson has remained close to Donald Trump and the Republican party. Ahead of the 2024 Presidential election, a report from USA Today revealed that Johnson donated $1,803,600 to the party, ranking fourth in the list of NFL owners with the most money donated to political organizations.
He paid these organizations more than what Breece Hall is making this year ($1,524,525) and almost $200K less than what he'll make next campaign ($1,934,287). The Jets returned to winning ways last week after losing five straight games. They defeated the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football with Aaron Rodgers going off. The New Yorkers hope that this is the start of a positive streak, but first, they need to beat the Cardinals on Sunday. With a 3-6 record, the season isn't over for the Jets and if Rodgers keeps up his level of performance, this team could be dangerous in a potential playoff run.
