Russell Wilson provides his honest opinion on the Broncos cutting Melvin Gordon as the franchise's struggles continue

Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos have had a very tough season so far and recently parted ways with running back Melvin Gordon.

Gordon was released by the franchise as the player wasn't able to perform up to the expectations that were set for him.

Gordon came to Denver in 2020 and since then, had been a huge part of their offense. However, things weren't working out well for the team this season and some changes were required.

Prior to the game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 12, Russell Wilson spoke about the departure of Melvin Gordon from the team.

"I talked a little bit. Obviously, Melvin's one of the best running backs in the National Football League for, I don't know, 9+, 10 years and he's been really special over the years."

Russell Wilson added:

"So, you know, [it] hurts for us to see him go, and I know how much he cared. He hated letting people down. He felt like and he always just wanted to try to make a great play."

Wilson continued:

"I think that the great thing about Melvin [is that] he's gonna get another opportunity. We're praying for him that he gets to go shine somewhere and I just love his attitude, how he's always confident..."

Melvin Gordon is likely to attract multiple teams in the coming weeks and it won't be long until we see him back on the field once again.

The Broncos, on the other hand, need to get their season together as they are on the brink of elimination from the race to the playoffs. They are currently 3-7 and are staring down the barrel.

The Denver Broncos are set to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 12 and the Broncos need to get a win here. Sam Darnold will be the starting quarterback for the Panthers this week, and Russell Wilson will be required to put in a great performance.

So far this season, Wilson has a passer rating of 83.3 with 2,227 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in 9 games.

Nathaniel Hackett goes into detail on why he gave play calling duties to Klint Kubiak

Head coach Nathaniel Hackett is also under a lot of pressure. If they lose to the Panthers this week, tough decisions might get taken by the front office.
