"I never really saw him as a racist, I saw him as an elitist" - O.J. Simpson reveals how close he was to Donald Trump

Donald Trump, like many public figures, has rubbed shoulders with some of the top athletes of recent decades, from Tom Brady to O.J. Simpson. Simpson revealed how well he knew the president before he ran for office while speaking on the Full Send Podcast. Here's how he put it:

"That's what I always liked about the Donald that I knew, not the president. He had a great sense of humor. He could laugh at himself. He told a great story. I lived in New York doing NFL Live and we kind of had the same tastes in ladies: Models. I had dated models for a while."

He continued, explaining how the two ran into each other at events:

"We found ourselves at a lot of those type of events. We were very friendly acquaintances and I gotta tell you, I liked him. I liked him a lot. I thought he was really funny when I was in camp. And he was first running for president and a lot of guys said he was a racist. I never really saw him as a racist. I saw him as an elitist."

Lastly, he claimed the only thing the future president was interested in was money.

"He's a guy that if you got money and you're doing well, he was cool with you, no matter what color you were. Don't get me wrong. I'm not talking about President Donald Trump, I'm talking about this guy that I knew back then."

To many, Donald Trump is living in a controversial present. But for O.J. Simpson, most agree that his biggest controversy lies in the past. The running back made a name for himself in the NFL from 1969 until 1979, when he rushed for about 7,500 total yards between 1972 and 1976.

However, his fame turned into infamy in 1990s when he was accused of murdering his estranged wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman, according to History. After 252 days of conflict in court, the running back was acquitted, and the result quickly became one of the most controversial and still-referenced court cases in American history.

I told you guys Gareth Southgate is the modern day OJ Simpson the man is teflon!

While he escaped conviction in the case, he was sent to jail in 2007 in a robbery case, according to Forbes. He was released on parole in 2021.
