“I think he's going down”- Skip Bayless predicts an upset loss for Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs against Jaguars
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Divisional round this weekend. While the Chiefs are favored to win the game and advance in the playoffs, the Jaguars have surprised quite a few teams this season, including the Los Angeles Chargers last weekend.
On FS1's "Undisputed" on Friday morning, Bayless said he believes the Jaguars will pull off an upset over Mahomes and the Chiefs. He said he is picking Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars because Lawrence is becoming one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL this season.
"I think he's going down. I'm going Jaguars. I'm going Trevor Lawrence. Just because there's something about him. We keep talking about quarterbacks who are coming of age right before your very eyes. Well, he's the most gifted of all of them. He's right up there with Mahomes or Josh Allen, whoever you want to throw in there because he's 6’6ish, 230 ish."
Skip Bayless went on to say he believes the quarterback's ability as a dual threat will also be a challenge for the Chiefs defense. He said Trevor Lawrence's 'arrogance' is also an advantage in his play. Bayless stated that the fact that Lawrence doesn't believe football is the most important thing in his life is why he has had so much success in his life.
"Yes. He can also run with it. He can really throw it, and he has a weird sort of arrogance about him. That comes from the fact that we went back and forth debating before the draft. He didn't really prioritize football in his life. He talked about how other things are just as important, if not more important than football," Bayless said.
What will the Jaguars have to do to stop Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs?
The Jacksonville Jaguars won six of their final seven games of the season, which led to the AFC South divisional title. The Jags' magical season didn't stop there. They then went on to overcome a 27-point deficit in the Wild Card round to the Los Angeles Chargers and get the win to take a trip to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Jags will have their hands full with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his offense, who are no strangers to playing this time of year. But what will Jacksonville have to do to get past the experienced Chiefs?
The Jacksonville Jaguars will have to put pressure on the Chiefs' quarterback. Sometimes, even putting pressure on him doesn't work, so the Jags defense will also have to be ready for the deep ball. With an offensive threat like tight end Travis Kelce, the deep ball is the Chiefs' go-to play. The Jags will have to be ready for anything and everything Chiefs head coach Andy Reid throws at them, literally.
