IN PHOTOS: Broncos' Zach Wilson and girlfriend Nicolette Dellanno boat off to lakeside Arizona for offseason vacation
Zach Wilson is continuing to acclimatize himself to his new home. Last month, the New York Jets finally did what they were expected to do: trade their long-maligned quarterback to the Denver Broncos for a sixth-round pick. The transaction ended three seasons of often-erratic play from the 2021 second overall pick.
Since then, he has been doing all he can to permanently adjust to the Mountain Time Zone. The most recent instance playing the pilot to a lakeside yacht vacation in Arizona comprising his girlfriend Nicolette Dellanno and their friends.
How did Zach Wilson, girlfriend Nicolette Dellanno react to trade to Broncos?
As soon as reports of Zach Wilson heading to Colorado became public, his family reacted with much glee, erecting Broncos flags and hanging orange and blur balloons at their house as shown in an Instagram Story with the caption:
"Surround yourself with people (that) love you, cheer for you, and want you to succeed"
Meanwhile, his girlfriend was much more subdued, simply posting three orange hearts while sharing the link to the Instagram post announcing the trade.
Zach Wilson himself, meanwhile, decided to keep a low profile amid all the furor. He finally spoke about the trade to the press last Thursday. To begin, he said his failure as a Jet became some sort of learning experience for him:
“I feel like you learn the most when things don’t always go the best. So you bank those reps, you learn from them and three years of things being challenging you can learn a lot of things. Hopefully I can carry those with me.
"Obviously there's bittersweet moments in everything. I was grateful for my experiences there. And the guys. I miss the guys out there and everything, too. But at the same time, a fresh start is good. I'm excited to attack a new challenge."
He also expressed his excitement of playing under Sean Payton:
“Obviously (Payton’s) done a phenomenal job for as long as I can remember. I loved watching Drew (Brees) back in the day and just the efficiency he played with, how consistent it was, how explosive they were as an offense and just taking what the defense gives you.”
His competition for the starting quarterback job comprises Jarrett Stidham and rookie Bo Nix. Payton recently called them "orphan dogs" in a press conference.
