IN PHOTOS: Ladd McConkey and girlfriend Sydney Horne announce engagement after Chargers WR's romantic proposal
Ladd McConkey reached a milestone last month when the Los Angeles Chargers finally gave him his rookie contract. Now, he has an idea where to spend it: his wedding.
The second-round wide receiver proposed and became engaged to his girlfriend Sydney Horne on Saturday at 2400 On the River, a well-known wedding venue in Ranger, Georgia:
The next day, Horne shared the moment on social media, calling it "the best day of my life":
NFL players react to Ladd McConkey's engagement announcement
There was much rejoicing, but none more so than from the NFL world. Players, both within the Chargers and without, flocked to the post to send their congratulations.
Among them were linebacker Junior Colson, who will play with McConkey in Inglewood, and New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler. They wrote:
"Congratulations (my) brotha."
Houston Texans rookie cornerback Kamari Lassiter, Tennesee Titans sophomore wide receiver Kearis Jackson, Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Travon Walker and the San Francisco 49ers' Robert Beal Jr. and Ricky Pearsall also had similar messages.
Another Charger, Simi Fehoko, and Las Vegas Raiders rookie tight end Brock Bowers had variations on the rallying cry "Let's go!" Indianapolis Colts rookie wideout Adonai Mitchell posted three "tears of joy" emojis.
Ladd McConkey to host youth football camps as Chargers preseason nears
On Thursday, Ladd McConkey will host two youth football camps in his home state of Georgia: one at Milton in Alpharetta from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and another at his alma mater of North Murray in his hometown of Chatsworth, Georgia from 2 to 5 p.m.
Tickets for the latter camp are already sold out, according to a representative for organizer FlexWork Sports. Meanwhile, as of Friday, there were still open slots for the other camp.
Camp activities at Chatsworth are expected to include “lectures, fundamental skill stations, contests and awards,” but the first hour will be used for check-in, group assignments and giveaways by event sponsors. Attendees will receive, among other things, a group photo with McConkey and a T-shirt.
Last fall, North Murray retired his No. 15. He will bring back the number as a Charger, as his college No. 84 is already being used by tight end Stone Smartt.
