Insider notes on Davante Adams’ trade: AFC contenders emerge as dark horse in 3x All-Pro WR's Super Bowl chase
As has been reported in the wider media, Davante Adams’ days as a Las Vegas Raider are numbered. So what went wrong? And where could the All Pro receiver land?
Right now it seems like an amicable split between Adams and the Raiders - the franchise is open to trading their All Pro wide out and he informed the team he prefers to be shipped out. The latter, first reported by Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, was confirmed to me by a member of Adams inner circle.
Raiders WR Davante Adams' quest for Super Bowl
Davante Adams always had a good relationship with the Raiders and team owner Mark Davis, who leaned on the former Green Bay Packer for advice, but the receiver wants to win a Super Bowl ring and feels time may be running short.
Entering his 11th season in the league, the six time Pro Bowler doesn’t believe he’ll win a championship any time soon in Las Vegas for several reasons, most prominently the situation at quarterback. Neither Gardner Minshew nor second year passer Aidan O’Connell have established themselves as franchise passers and the team will look for a quarterback in the off season next year.
Where could Davante Adams end up?
People close to Adams tell me the teams most interested right now are the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints. Of that group the feeling is the Steelers would be the best fit.
Obviously the Jets would also be a good fit as Adams would be paired with his former quarterback from Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers. I’m told Adams and Rodgers have been communicating and the Jets quarterback is believed to be lobbying to get his former receiver to Gang Green.
Raiders' asking price for Davante Adams
I’m told teams have talked about trading a second round pick to Las Vegas for Adams though sources tell me the team willing to pony up a first round pick will be the eventual winner.
Since entering the league out of Fresno State as the second round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2014, Adams has been named to the Pro Bowl six times and three times was named a First Team All Pro.
He was traded to the Raiders in March of 2022 in exchange for a first and second round selection in the draft later that year.
