Is Cooper Kupp playing this week? Latest on Rams WR's status for Sunday vs 49ers

Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp will not be playing on Sunday when they host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3. Kupp suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 2.

Kupp was ruled out for Week 3, and coach Sean McVay said the receiver was a candidate to be put on the injured reserve. However, McVay did say Kupp would be out for an extended time.

Kupp will spend the next week or so in a cast to help fight the swelling in his leg, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Although Kupp will not be playing on Sunday, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was impressed by his team's other receivers.

“Those guys did a nice job today when they got their opportunities in the game to step in and make some plays,” Stafford said after the game, via RamsWire. “I thought Demarcus Robinson made some nice plays, I thought Tutu made some good plays, J-Whitt made some plays, TJ.
"So continue to grow with those guys, try to help them out as much as I possibly can, give them good passes to catch and let those guys do their thing. I’ve got a ton of trust in them. They’ve done a great job all through OTAs, training camp, all that kind of stuff. And have some pass-game history with some of those guys.”

Kupp dealt with injuries in 2023, and he joins another star receiver Puka Nacua with an injury. Nacua is currently on the injured reserve due to re-aggravating his knee injury, which he suffered in training camp.

Cooper Kupp has recorded 18 receptions for 147 yards and a touchdown this season before the injury.

Rams add veteran receiver after Cooper Kupp's injury

Following Cooper Kupp suffering the high-ankle sprain, the Los Angeles Rams signed veteran wide receiver Quintez Cephus to the practice squad. Cephus has been in the NFL since he was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions.

Cephus signed with the Buffalo Bills this offseason, but he was released not even a month later. He spent training camp with the Houston Texans before releasing.

In his NFL career, Cephus has recorded 37 receptions for 568 yards and four touchdowns.
