Is Justin Herbert playing today? Week 1 update on Chargers QB's foot injury

Justin Herbert's injury has become a major talking point for Los Angeles Chargers fans as we inch closer to kickoff. The Chargers cleaned house over the offseason and appear to have embraced the challenge of rebuilding their roster but they face the rebuilding Las Vegas Raiders this evening, which hands Jim Harbaugh an opportunity to make a statement in his first official game as head coach of the franchise.

The Raiders will have Gardner Minshew under center after a somewhat disappointing QB battle in preseason. But will Herbert suit up for the Chargers at SoFi Stadium this evening?

Is Justin Herbert playing today?

Franchise leaders always want to suit up for every single game, and Justin Herbert's resolve is no less despite dealing with a foot injury. Considering the fact that he was in a walking boot for two weeks in preseason, Chargers fans were rightly concerned about Herbert's injury status for Week 1.

However, Herbert was officially taken off the injury report on Friday, September 6.

Despite dealing with a plantar fascia issue, Herbert will play in Week 1 as they host the Raiders this evening.

Herbert won't have too many weapons to boast of today. He will be throwing to Joshua Palmer, rookie Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. One player to look out for is another rookie - Joe Alt. The Chargers picked Alt with their first-round pick in the draft and despite being concerned an NFL-ready prospect, he will have to deal with the challenge of keeping Maxx Crosby away from Herbert all evening.
