“Is Tom Brady this year’s Taylor Swift?” – Cam Newton accuses NFL of excessively pushing 7x Super Bowl champ on fans

After a year off from the NFL, Tom Brady made his debut as a broadcaster with FOX. Set to earn $375 million over the course of 10 years, Brady's debut was the talk of the down.

Cam Newton, however, couldn't help but compare the same to Taylor Swift. Dating Travis Kelce since mid-2023, Swift received a lot of media coverage throughout the NFL season.

On the "4th&1" podcast, Newton wondered if Brady is the 2024 season's Taylor Swift.

“Fashion-wise, I like the sleek, James Bond look. A little razzle dazzle. Is Tom Brady this year’s Taylor Swift? Why is the NFL just pushing Tom Brady on us like this?
"Like last year, every time you looked up, it was Taylor Swift. You couldn’t watch a damn Kansas City Chiefs game without Taylor Swift. I feel like the NFL is pushing Tom Brady on us. Have you ever seen any commentator walking up? You ain’t never seen Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Tony Romo or Greg Olsen walking to the booth." Newton said. [1:00:40 mark].
“It’s a little excessive.”

As per Newton, one couldn't go a single NFL game without looking at Swift. Many fans were upset over the same, hoping there would be less coverage of her as the season progressed.

NFL fans weren't happy with Tom Brady's broadcasting debut

Covering the Dallas Cowboys-Cleveland Browns game, many had huge expectations from Tom Brady before the game. However, the seven-time Super Bowl champion failed to impress fans.

Some even demanded that Greg Olsen be brought back, saying that broadcasting might not be the perfect career for Brady.

Fans believed Brady was overly conscious of what he was saying, unable to focus and enjoy the big plays of the games. Apart from Newton, Brady's former teammate Antonio Brown also spoke up about his debut.

As per Brown, someone at Fox should have listened to Brady speak before signing him to a $300 million deal.

That being said, Brady has a long way to go before he perfects his role as a broadcaster and analyst. The retired QB has spoken about prepping for the role and is looking to do a good job as the season progresses.

For Week 2, Brady will be covering the Dallas Cowboys' game vs. the New Orleans Saints. It will be interesting to see if he can make a better impression on fans here.
