“It was a fumble” - Raiders star Jimmy Garoppolo reignites debate on Tom Brady’s tuck rule incident

One of the biggest controversies in NFL history has to be Tom Brady's infamous "Tuck Rule" game in the AFC Championship 2001. Las Vegas Raiders' new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has brought it up once again.

The "Tuck Rule" game still divides opinion as Brady was tackled by Charles Woodson, on account of which the Raiders resultantly recovered the ball. However, after the referees intervined, it was ruled to be an incomplete pass as Brady tried to "tuck" the ball back into his body.

Now a Raider, Garoppolo was going through the stadium on a what we think was a walkthrough when he chanced upon the picture of the incident. It didn't take him long to give his verdict on it.

Mincing no words, Garoppolo said:

"It was a fumble. It was a fumble."

If there was ever a way to endear yourself to Raider Nation, we think Jimmy G just aced it. While there will always be divided opinions on that fateful incident over two decades ago, at least Raiders fans know that their new quarterback has no doubts about it whatsoever!

Garoppolo's time in San Francisco was somewhat successful as he took his team to multiple NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance. But once the organization drafted Trey Lance, the writing was on the wall.

Now with Derek Carr over at New Orleans Saints, Jimmy Garoppolo finds himself in Las Vegas.

With Josh Jacobs at running back and Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow out wide, Garoppolo does have some weapons to utilize. But the AFC West is stacked with talent as Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers all have Super Bowl aspirations.

Well, as do the Raiders.

Carr couldn't get the Raiders into the postseason that often with just one appearance in nine seasons. The hope is that Jimmy Garoppolo will be the quarterback to take the franchise over the line.

While a Super Bowl appearance is unlikely (never say never), Raiders fans should at least feel good about Jimmy G being under center in 2023.
