"It hurts": Baker Mayfield pokes fun at 'best friend' Mark Andrews for ignoring him during the season
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews were college teammates at Oklahoma for three years. The two will face each other when the Buccaneers host the Ravens at Raymond James Stadium at 8:15 p.m. EDT on Monday.
The two had a ton of success at Oklahoma, which led to their successful NFL careers. They developed a close bond whcih exists even now, except during the football season.
Speaking to the media ahead of their Monday night showdown against Andrews' Ravens, Mayfield jokingly said:
"Even though Mark and I are best friends, him and I don’t talk in season. He’s a weirdo. He can’t exactly separate friendship and football. He struggles with that on a year-to-year basis, so there’s a few months at a time when we’re friends again. It hurts my feelings. Guy was in my wedding, won’t talk to me. It hurts my feelings."
Baker Mayfield was just having some fun at the expense of his college teammate. In 2017, Mayfield won the Heisman, Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award and Walter Camp award, while Andrews won the John Mackey award for the nation's best tight end.
Andrews has been named a Pro Bowler three times in his NFL career and an All-Pro once. Baker Mayfield was named to his first Pro Bowl last season while setting career-highs in passing yard and touchdowns.
Baker Mayfield's Buccaneers will look to improve to 5-2 on the season against Baltimore
Monday Night Football features a double header. The first game will be between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baltimore Ravens, while the second is between the LA Chargers and Arizona Cardinals.
Both Tampa Bay and Baltimore enter Monday night's contest with a 4-2 record and are tied for first place in their respective divisions.
Baker Mayfield picked up where he left off last season after leading the Buccaneers to the playoffs. His connection with wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin is one of the best in the league. Mayfield has thrown for 15 touchdowns, five interceptions and 1,489 yards this season.
The Ravens have been led on offense by Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry, who is still top five in almost every major rushing category.
The Bucs have won two of their past four games, while Baltimore enters Monday night on a four-game win streak.
