"It’s a challenge": Tom Brady opens up about parenting experience as single father post Gisele Bündchen divorce
It's been a year since Tom Brady retired from the NFL, and during his transition to off-the-field life, he remains steadfast in his commitment to parenting.
Tom Brady and ex-wife Gisele Bündchen share two kids, Vivian and Benjamin, while his oldest son, Jack, is from a previous relationship with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan. During his time at Fanatics Fest in NYC, Brady opened up about his parenting experience, as he shared the stage with Stephen A. Smith:
"I got a lot of things that keep me busy but still trying to be a great dad and be there for my kids. And all the parents out there know that it’s a challenge to be a good parent. And all the kids, I hope you appreciate your parents too! Because there’s a lot of work they put into making your life a little easier," Brady said.
Going forward, the future Hall of Famer talked about unique father-child bonds. Brady expressed how when he doesn't get calls from his kids about specific requests, he automatically knows that they don't need anything:
"Every time they call me, I know there is a request because when they don’t call, I don’t hear from them. And when I don’t hear from them, I know they don’t want anything."
Brady has sacrificed a considerable amount of quality time with the kids because of his commitment to his NFL career. However, the former quarterback noted that as his kids have grown older, they have started to understand all the sacrifices he made.
"They begin to appreciate …. as they get older and start to have the responsibilities of an adult. When you’re working hard to be a dad and also provide for the family that does come with being away a bit and being really focused on my job," Brady said.
