Jakobi Meyers trade rumors: Wounded NFC contenders urged to trade for Raiders WR by NFL analyst
Jakobi Meyers joined the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023 to complement superstar Davante Adams. More than half a year later, however, that duo has since ended, with the latter reuniting with fellow ex-Green Bay Packer Aaron Rodgers on the New York Jets.
And now Bleacher Report's Matt Holder believes it is now time for general manager Tom Telesco to part ways with the other half. In an article published on Monday, Holder suggests the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the wideout's premier destination due to the big injuries to the Bucs' star receivers:
"With Chris Godwin out for the year and Mike Evans sidelined for a while, the Buccanneers can use some wide receiver help. Meanwhile, the Raiders are sitting at 2-6 and might be willing to part with Meyers, who has 31 catches for 325 yards a touchdown this season, for a draft pick."
After a strong 3-1 start, the Bucs have gone 1-3 in their last four games amid their injury woes. They currently lie second in the NFC South.
Mike Evans suffered a hamstring injury against the Baltimore Ravens and is expected to be out for at least four weeks. Meanwhile, Chris Godwin suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the same game.
Assessing Jakobi Meyers' potential impact on the Buccaneers
When the Buccaneers have contended for and won a Super Bowl title, it has usually been because they have a pair of top-tier wideouts. First, it was with Keyshawn Johnson and Keenan McCardell in 2002. Then it was with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in 2020.
But the latter duo, as mentioned before, are out (Godwin in particular is not playing another snap this season). That leaves Trey Palmer and Sterling Shepard as their remaining wideouts - not exactly the best combination.
This is where Jakobi Meyers comes in. While obviously not the most productive receiver during his time with the New England Patriots and Raiders, he provides a credible long-range weapon for the team.
With both Godwin and Evans out, the leading wide receiver on the Bucs' roster is Sterling Shepard, with 11 catches for 111 yards.
Jakobi Meyers has recorded 800 receiving yards or more in three straight seasons, although he is on pace to reach just under 700 yards this year.
