Jalen Hurts admits to not being on same page as Nick Sirainni during Eagles' epic 2023 season collapse
Jalen Hurts has admitted that the quarterback and the Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirainni were not on the same page during the team's monumental collapse in the 2023 NFL season. However, the two of them have patched it up this offseason.
Last week, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that there was "some disconnect" between Hurts and Sirainni last season. Russini mentioned that the relationship between the two is "work in progress" due to their contrasting personalities, with Hurts being a very private guy and Sirainni being a very emotional one, causing a disconnect in their bond.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday after Eagles training camp, Jalen Hurts addressed the elephant in the room. He said that him and Sirainni were in a "great place" and admitted that last year was a learining experience. [From 1:24]
"I think we’re in a great place,” Hurts said. "I think anytime you have any frustration, any time you have any adversity that you have to overcome, it’s supposed to test you. I think it’s a matter of being on the same page. If we were on the same page, maybe we would have accomplished the things we would have. And we didn’t. It’s a learning experience."
Hurts added:
"I truly trust Mr. Lurie. I trust Howie. I trust Coach Sirianni to lead us in the right direction. I know there are different roles in place. Everybody has different responsibilities... But I think to win championships, to be the team you want to be, everyone has to buy into that role, and everyone has to be fully committed to doing their part in helping the team.”
Eagles HC Nick Sirianni not putting much shock into reports of disconnect with Jalen Hurts
The Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni disagreed with the reports about his disconnect with Jalen Hurts. Speaking to reporters at the training camp, he said that their relationship was good.
"The only thing you can judge relations on is your personal interactions with people, not any report that comes out," Sirianni said. "Jalen and I's relationship is good. When you hear a report like that, you don't put much stock into it because, quite frankly, not everybody sees it. We've done some pretty special things. I'm really excited for him, he's worked so hard on his game."
Sirainni and Hurts' relationship came under the microscope after the Eagles botched an NFL-best 10-1 record start to the season. They went on to lose six of their final seven games of the season, including getting blown out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
