“Jalen Hurts is benefitting from pretty privilege” – Ex-NFL CB takes hammer to $255,000,000 QB’s reputation
There was considerable drama surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles this week. Between A.J. Brown making it clear that he was unhappy with how little he was being targeted and Brandon Graham adding fuel to the fire, all eyes were on how the Eagles would deal with adversity in a big matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Eagles certainly sent a message quieting the doubters by beating the Steelers 27-13. Hurts threw for 290 yards and two touchdowns, adding another 45 yards with a rushing TD to his total.
Hurts' post-game press conference drew a lot of eyeballs given all the jewelry he was decked out in. That little stunt didn't fly too well with ESPN's Domonique Foxworth. The former NFL cornerback turned analyst made his feelings crystal clear in a takedown of the league's ninth-highest-paid quarterback.
“Jalen Hurts is benefitting from pretty privilege. He got up on that press conference after the game and he acted like he was Josh Allen," Foxworth said on ESPN's Get Up segment.
"He acting like he just went for 400 yards for 3 weeks in a row, man you had one good week passing and everyone forgets it when he starts batting his eyes at you.”
Hurts inked a five-year, $255 million contract in April of last year, briefly becoming the NFL's highest-paid quarterback with an annual average salary of $51 million. That contract has subsequently been surpassed by eight quarterbacks. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is presently at the top of the list, with a contract worth $60 million per year.
Where Jalen Hurts, Eagles stand in Week 16
With 12 wins and two losses, the Eagles are in firm control of the NFC East. They have three games left on their schedule - a road trip to face the Washington Commanders followed by home games against the Cowboys and New York Giants. They are currently the second seed in the NFC.
Technically, the Eagles can still get the top seed in the division. They don't play the Detroit Lions so a tiebreaker will not come into play. In this case, they will need the Lions to lose one more game than the Eagles over their next three matchups for Philly to leapfrog them and take the No. 1 seed.
The Lions go up against the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings to close out the season.
