Jalen Hurts prepares to take on major responsibility as Eagles QB steps out from Jason Kelce's shadow

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts knows that he is the next man up when it comes to being a leader for his offense. The Eagles quarterback called into the 94.1 WIP radio show on Thursday morning and spoke about his role at the line of scrimmage.

He said that, up to this point, veteran center Jason Kelce controls the line of scrimmage and pass protection.

After 13 seasons in the National Football League, Kelce called it a career this past offseason. This now means that Hurts will have the opportunity to step and lead his offense and take on that responsibility off the line.

"I think, in the end, when you look at this upcoming season and what you have seen in years past, it's just different autonomy in different places. We had a great player in Jason Kelce who took on a lot of responsibility, and as a result of that, I was told not to worry about a lot of things. And so my eagerness to learn over the years kind of was halted because of who we had. But now, times are different and I'm excited for that journey and this opportunity."-Hurts said.

In Jason Kelce's absence, Jalen Hurts will not get the ball from third-year player Cam Jurgens, who will now be tasked with the role of center. The quarterback threw eight interceptions against the blitz in 2023, the most in the league. He will need to be able to read opposing defenses better heading into 2024.

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts named one of the 'Most Overrated' in NFL

Each year, ESPN sends out a poll to players in the National Football League, asking them questions about their peers. This year's poll was answered by 103 players in the league and their responses were quite interesting.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen wasn't a favorite amongst other players in the NFL. He was named the 'Biggest trash talker' and the 'Most Overrated Quarterback'. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts didn't escape the poll unscathed either, he was named the second-most 'Overrated Quarterback' in the NFL.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback has led the Eagles to the playoffs in three of his four seasons. This also includes a trip to Super Bowl LVI.
