Jason Kelce admits regrets after snapping at Penn State fan over "f***ing ridiculous" slur about Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift
Jason Kelce lashing out at a heckler in the Penn State-Ohio State game on Saturday for using a homophobic slur at Travis Kelce proves the Eagles veteran is a protective brother.
Looking back at the momentary lapse, which went viral online, Jason is not happy about how things escalated on Nov. 2.
“Me reacting gave him the time of day, and it also gave the situation notoriety. Now, it’s out there and just perpetuates more hate," said the former NFL center in the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast.
Reportedly, it happened after a fan teased Jason about his brother and Chiefs TE Travis Kelce's high-flying romance with Taylor Swift and passed a homophobic remark.
Losing calm almost immediately, Jason smashed the harasser's phone and used the same slur to hit back at the fan – something which he deeply regrets.
"The thing that I regret the most is saying that word, to be honest with you, and the word he used is just f—ing ridiculous. It’s dehumanizing and it got under my skin and it elicited a reaction,” Jason confessed.
That said, Travis Kelce, who was co-hosting the "New Heights" podcast with Jason, appreciated his elder brother's honesty.
Travis Kelce justifies Jason Kelce's actions toward the heckler
Understanding Jason Kelce's rage at the fan who used a homophobic slur, the Kansas City Chiefs TE believes the retired Eagles center was being protective about his family.
“The real situation is you had some f—ing clown come up to you and talk about your family and you reacted in a way that was defending your family,” he said consoling Jason.
At the same time, Travis feels it was a big learning opportunity for Jason. Moreover, the Chiefs TE lauded his elder for showing integrity in public because not everyone can take responsibility and address their wrong actions.
Well, the public's reaction has been quite polarized. While some have defended Jason Kelce's action like Travis Kelce and Chris Long did, Philadelphia sports radio host Jon Marks had a different opinion.
Marks feels the kind of popularity Jason Kelce is enjoying now, is "bigger than it ever was as a player." Therefore, he "needs security to deal with this s**t" rather than handling the downsides of fame by himself.
Regardless of whether one supports or opposes what Jason Kelce did in the heat of the moment, one thing is clear – he has his brother's back.
