Jason Kelce drops an F-bomb explaining his problem with NFL Kickers
Jason Kelce was in the hot seat on the latest episode of the "New Heights" podcast. After he made comments about special teams, especially kickers, not being essential players on a roster, former NFL punter Pat McAfee was a guest on the podcast this week.
McAfee, who hosts his own show, "The Pat McAfee Show," on ESPN, believed kickers are good for the NFL as a whole.
Pat: "Jason, he was saying some terrible stuff about, you know, like position groups ... You had a well thought out take. You said, for years, I've been thinking for years. Been talking about this ... But Jason, I think you should maybe be on the side of kickers, because I think it's good for the sport."
Jason added that he doesn't actually have an issue with kickers in the NFL. It was then that he recalled how kickers had an easier time during the grueling training camp, which essentially sparked jealousy.
Jason: "No, I am. this is, like, in the middle of training camp, and you're in a one on one situation, you get your a** kicked, and then you look over and the kickers are, like, playing a game, kicking the ball, like, see how far they can kick it into a ring or something. Like, f*** these guys, it's really from a place of jealousy."
What did Jason Kelce say about NFL kickers?
Through the first few weeks of the 2024 NFL season, kickers have made quite an impact on games. That impact has allowed a few teams to win games thanks to their efforts.
Jason Kelce, though, isn't impressed and believes that the NFL should make the goal posts more narrow to make it more of a challenge.
Jason Kelce shared those thoughts on the October 9, 2024, episode of the "New Heights" podcast. The former Philadelphia Eagles center said that kickers now make long-distance field goals look easy and, as a result, affect the outcome of games rather than the offense or defense winning games.
“Kickers are making 60-yarders like it’s routine," Jason said. "Kickers should not be influencing football games as much as they are right now. We need to make kickers way less valuable. That is not what football is about.”
Travis Kelce feels kickers are making the end of games exciting. Jason though continued with his belief that their value is too high and should be challenged with rugby-style goal posts.
