Jason Kelce opens up on "fears" as ESPN broadcaster ahead of 2024 season
Jason Kelce retired as an NFL player at the end of the past season. Fans must be already missing the Philadelphia Eagles star with preseason starting this week. Of course, retiring from the NFL doesn't mean Jason Kelce is stepping away from the NFL. After taking up a broadcasting role, Kelce will feature for ESPN during the 2024 season.
That said, the 36-year-old had a few doubts and fears ahead of his time with ESPN. While on the Green Light with Chris Long podcast, Kelce spoke about his fears.
“I guess I’m fearful that I’m not going to be prepared. Because I feel like there’s a lot more autonomy," Jason Kelce said. "Once you’re removed from it, you’ve got to go out of your way to really watch things and really iron in on what’s happening to do a reputable job." [25:08 timestamp]
Apart from his broadcasting stint, Kelce will also keep hosting his podcast 'New Heights' with his younger brother and Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce.
Kelce's debut will be during the Week 1 San Francisco 49ers vs. New York Jets game at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. He will be a regular on Monday Night Countdown.
ESPN is ready to welcome Jason Kelce as its new analyst
While Jason Kelce had his doubts, ESPN President of Content, Burke Magnus, is confident in the retired star's ability.
“Jason is a highly respected, Super Bowl Champion with a strong connection to fans,” Burke Magnus said in his statement. “Walking off the field and immediately to ESPN, viewers will benefit from his perspective which has been shaped through his years as an established locker room leader and a future Hall of Fame center.
Furthermore, he believes Kelce's presence will only better the NFL coverage for Monday Night Football.
Kelce walks into his new role with 13 years of on-field experience, including the Eagles' 2017 Super Bowl win. A seven-time Pro Bowler, Kelce is surely a future inductee of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
