Jason Kelce's wife Kylie delivers empowering commencement speech in contrast to Chiefs K Harrison Butker's Benedictine college controversy
Harrison Butker found himself knee-deep in controversy after delivering the commencement speech at Benedictine College. While he's been facing heat, Kylie Kelce, wife of former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, delivered a commencement speech of her own. The difference between the two was notable.
The Kansas City Chiefs kicker delved into some of the most controversial topics of our day and age. His comments on abortion rights, women's careers, Pride Month and diversity drew heavy backlash. Kylie, on the other hand, kept the focus on the graduating students and their lives moving forward.
She also poked fun at Jason Kelce, who has given some poignant speeches in his day, especially after winning the 2018 Super Bowl.
She said to the graduating class of 2024 at Cabrini University:
“My husband, Jason Kelce, is known for giving some pretty Earth-shattering speeches. He did not help me with writing my words today, so lower those expectations.”
Kylie’s jokes lightened the mood as she continued to inspire the students through her words:
"The truth is that no one has their lives completely figured out. And if someone tells you otherwise, they are lying.
"Find the things that speak to you. Your enthusiasm can be channeled to create change, and you are wonderful the way you are."
Backgrounds of Kylie Kelce and Harrison Butker's speeches
Harrison Butker delivered his speech at Benedictine College, even though he never attended it, graduating from Georgia Tech. On the other hand, Cabrini University is Kylie’s alma mater.
Kylie graduated from Cabrini in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in communications. The university has been operating since 1957, but is is set to close after this year. Kylie was chosen to be the last-ever speaker at the University by the students, as per Fox News.
