Jason Kelce shields Nick Sirianni against criticism despite Eagles' 7-2 record
Despite the fact that Nick Sirianni's Philadelphia Eagles are 7-2, the head coach continues to face criticism. Former Eagles center Jason Kelce backed his former coach on the 94 WIP Morning Show on Thursday.
Kelce said that some are quick to ask what exactly Nick Sirianni's job title is now that he's no longer the offensive playcaller. The Super Bowl-winning center said that many coaches throughout the NFL don't call plays and aren't criticized for it as Sirianni is. Kelce used Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell as an example.
"I think the big thing people question with Nick is like, 'What does he do?' Especially now that he's not a play-caller. And I just think there's a number of coaches that do this now, Dan Campbell being one of them. And people really don't question what Dan Campbell does for the Lions," Kelce said.
Jason Kelce continued:
"I know that's not as easy and transparent as like calling plays and whether he is good or bad at that. But I think that has tremendous value. For the most part, he's been really, really good at that through his career.
"You've got to give him some credit for—I don't know who made the hires or whatever. He's been the head coach through Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio coming on and these new additions and they've lost two games this year."
The Philadelphia Eagles lead the NFC East standings, tied in the win column with the Washington Commanders, who have one more loss at 7-3.
Nick Sirianni receives support from Fletcher Cox
Jason Kelce isn't the only former Philadelphia Eagles player who showed support for Nick Sirianni. Former defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was on the "Up and Adams Show" on Tuesday, praising his former head coach.
"Let's look at Nick's history ... Playoffs, Super Bowl, Playoffs, Playoffs. I mean all he does is WIN," Cox said on the "Up and Adams Show"
Sirianni has led the Eagles to five winning streaks of five or more games during his tenure as the head coach. His .683 winning percentage is the highest by any Eagles head coach during the first four seasons.
