Jay Cutler arrest: Retired Bears star in reported legal trouble over alleged DUI, possession of a handgun
Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was reportedly arrested in Tennessee on Thursday evening. According to TMZ Sports, Cutler was arrested for DUI and three other offenses in Franklin, Tennessee.
As per the report, the other crimes were failure to exercise due care, violation of implied consent law and possession of a handgun while under the influence. Cutler was booked into the Williamson County Jail and posted his $5,000 bond, so he was released that night.
According to the report, the circumstances surrounding Cutler's arrest are unknown at this time.
Cutler played 12 seasons in the NFL, mostly for the Bears. The quarterback was selected 11th overall in the 2006 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos. After just three seasons in Denver, Cutler was traded to the Bears. He spent eight years in Chicago before ending his career with one season with the Miami Dolphins.
Cutler finished his career throwing for 35,133 yards, 227 touchdowns and 160 interceptions. He played in just two playoff games, both in 2010 with the Bears.
Jay Cutler wanted Bears to keep Justin Fields
Jay Cutler is arguably the best quarterback in Chicago Bears history. Ahead of the 2024 NFL draft, Chicago had the first overall pick and ended up selecting Caleb Williams first overall.
However, Cutler thought his former team should have kept Justin Fields and traded the first overall pick for more assets to build around Fields.
“What I think they should do is trade down, get some more guys on that team to help out Justin, and see what happens,” Cutler said on the CW’s Inside the NFL in January, via BearsWire. “Because let’s plug in Caleb Williams on that team. What happens?”
Ultimately, Chicago traded Fields to Pittsburgh and the team selected Williams.
To begin his rookie season, Williams has thrown for 1,317 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions through six games as Chicago is off to a 4-2 start.
