Jeffery Simmons delivers eye-opening message to Titans fans after team's struggles
The start of the season has been disappointing for the Tennessee Titans. Sitting at a 1-5 record, and with their playoff hopes extremely slim, the season hinges on a complete turnaround if they want to make it count. But making the postseason after a 1-5 start feels difficult.
One would think that, after such a poor start, the locker room could also become a cause for concern. But superstar defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons has rebuked the idea. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Simmons said that, even though the record isn't great, the locker room remains tight:
"You know when a locker room is breaking down, there's so much tension and guys play for individual stats. That's not happening here. We play for each other. There's no pointing fingers. We just gotta find a way to do things better."
The only win of the Tennessee Titans this season has been against the Miami Dolphins in Week 4, as Mike McDaniel's team struggled without Tua Tagovailoa.
They have lost to the Chicago Bears, the New York Jets, the Green Bay Packers, the Indianapolis Colts and the Buffalo Bills. The most disappointing thing, however, has been the lack of development from second-year quarterback Will Levis, with many fans and analysts already calling for a replacement.
On Wednesday, the franchise traded wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs. Hopkins lost targets to free agency signing Calvin Ridley, who has been very disappointing so far, with just 183 receiving yards in six games.
Will Levis, Calvin Ridley struggling to produce for the Titans
The Titans are struggling because their quarterback, Will Levis, is playing below average. He has five touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 66.4% completion rate. There are lots of fans and analysts calling for him to lose the starting job, and he has thrown an interception every game this season.
He missed the Week 7 game with an injury, and Mason Rudolph took over as the starting quarterback. Rudolph had a solid exhibition, with 215 passing yards and a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills.
Ridley has had 23 targets but just five receptions in the past four games - you can blame this mostly on the quarterbacks, but at $24 million per year, it's fair to expect more from the wide receiver as well.
