Jerry Jones drops another bombshell on Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb contract update
The future of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb in Dallas has been the biggest talking point of this offseason. Both players are looking for contract extensions, but the franchise has failed to come close to an agreement.
Prescott and Lamb will now get a much bigger deal than they initially hoped for. This is because players at their positions have signed new deals this offseason, which has raised their market values.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was recently asked about the contract situation of the two star players. He said the conversations are ongoing regarding extensions.
“They’re just progressing, in my mind,” said Jones about Lamb's contract extension.
“I would say that we’re talking. I would not have a legitimate progress point there at all. And I really don’t have it for Lamb, either. And it’s not negative. I’m just thinking it wouldn’t do any good to talk about progress.”
When asked whether one player's extension is closer than the other, Jones replied:
“Not necessarily. But I just don’t want to talk about it.”
Based on reports, Lamb is expected to sign a contract extension in the coming days. He will get a new deal close to Justin Jefferson's $35 million salary based on his four-year, $140 million contract's annual average value.
On the other hand, everything hints at Prescott testing the free agency next year. However, based on Jones' comments, it sure does feel like the Cowboys are actively engaged in their efforts to keep the star quarterback in Dallas.
Keeping Dak Prescott will cost Jerry Jones a lot
Dak Prescott's new deal is expected to make him the highest-paid player in the history of the league. His contract's annual average value will be near the $60 million mark, and it will be very tough for the Cowboys to handle that.
If Prescott stays in Dallas, Jones will not be able to construct a star-studded roster around him. Moreover, the franchise has to sign Micah Parsons to a new deal soon, and he is projected to get more money than Nick Bosa.
Jerry Jones delaying new contracts for Lamb and Prescott has put the team in a difficult situation. All eyes will be on what the Cowboys do to keep Prescott in Dallas, as he will attract interest from multiple teams in next year's free agency.
