Jerry Jones outlines major Dak Prescott issue plaguing Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys believed that 2022 was the year they'd finally break their Super Bowl drought. With a bunch of key players returning to full fitness, fans believed that Dak Prescott would finally come good on his bumper contract and deliver them another Lombardi.

But what followed in 2022 was much of the same for the Cowboys. The injuries piled up right as the season started, with Prescott himself being ruled out for multiple games with a thumb fracture that required surgery.

This wasn't the first time the QB missed time to go under the knife. Back in 2021, he suffered an ankle injury in Week 5 which saw him miss out the rest of the season.

Jerry Jones, while talking to the media while attending the annual NFL owners' meeting, was asked about his thoughts on Prescott. His response, as per The Athletic, was blunt:

"If you look at the last three years, he needs to be more available... Everything we’re doing, and I feel good about this offensive line, should make him more available. And then we’re doing some things in the line, some technique and some philosophy there that will really help Dak out."

Jones continued by sharing his optimism for the fans about these changes in the upcoming NFL season:

"I’d say to our fans, these adjustments that we’re making in our offense... you add it all up and you are going to see Dak at his very best."

Prescott had to adjust to life without Amari Cooper last season after he was traded to the Cleveland Browns. This year, he'll have to adjust once again as he'll no longer have trusted running back Ezekiel Elliot around to lead his offense's rushing game.

Cowboys better off without Ezekiel Elliot in the mix

After a long contract holdout in 2019, Ezekiel Elliott signed a six-year extension worth $90 million with the Cowboys. The deal, as expected, was eating away at a large chunk of the team's cap space.

With his game falling, the team thankfully unearthed the perfect replacement in Tony Pollard. The running back will now be the Cowboys' undisputed RB1 and big things are expected from the 25-year-old in 2023.

Now a free agent, Elliott will have to find a new team for the upcoming season. Multiple teams have been rumored with a move for the RB who's still only 27. It's unlikely Zeke will return to his Pro Bowl days, but he surely has the experience to add depth to any NFL roster.
