Jerry Jones isn't ready to step down as Cowboys: "Nobody can f***ing come in here"
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has no plans to let anyone else run the show in the Big D. Jones purchased the Cowboys in 1989 and has served as the team's owner and GM ever since.
In an interview with Clarence Hill Jr., who covers the Cowboys for the Star-Telegram, Jones said nobody can handle contract situations better than himself.
"So hell no, there’s nobody that could f***ing come in here and do all the contract and be a GM any better than I can," Jones said. "The reason I don’t let somebody else be the GM is because I don’t have anybody that I will let do it to actually do it right. And they're gonna have to come to me and because I know where it is that you're going to pay for it."
Jones expressed confidence in his children, Stephen, Charlotte, and Jerry Jones Jr., running his team when he could no longer. It seems as if ownership will go to the family line once Jones considers himself unsuitable for the duties.
"I f**king have had hundreds of (bad day.) I'm emotional about it sometimes. Well, running this thing, that's who I want to make the last call. Now, when I can't fucking think, when I'm old, and I can't even do it ... but I'm a long way from not being able to do it, too," Jones added.
Jerry Jones reaches a contract extension with CeeDee Lamb
Jerry Jones made a splash on Monday as Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb agreed to a four-year $136 million contract extension, making him the second highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.
Lamb had been holding out of team practices and the pre-season in search of a new contract. With the 2024 NFL season beginning next Thursday, inking Lamb to a long-term deal was crucial.
The Cowboys will now shift their attention to paying quarterback Dak Prescott, who will become a free agent after this season.
Will Jones continue his success as GM/owner by inking Prescott before the start of the season? Let us know in the comments section.
