Jets CB Sauce Gardner reveals his trash talk on Commanders QB Jayden Daniels at joint practice

Today, after the New York Jets and Washington Commanders' joint practice, Sauce Gardner praised rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. The two were seen talking during practice and engaging in friendly trash talk.

After practice, Gardner said he was impressed with what he saw from Daniels.

"He gonna be nice," Gardner said to the media. "I was just talking to him down there. He was like, ‘I wouldn’t have been able to get that throw over anybody but you. No, we just were joking with each other. LSU, I know they talk a lot. So, when we first lined up, I was talking about, I'm like, ‘He young, he young.’ I was just trolling him. And he was smiling out there. So, I just told him, ‘Man, you're gonna be real good man.’"

According to Lynell Willingham of 106.7 The Fan, Daniels completed 7-of-15 passes for no more than 25 yards. He also noted that all of Daniels' completions were check-downs and screens. It's also worth noting that weather conditions weren't favorable in the northeast as it was a wet, rainy day early on.

Jayden Daniels and the Commanders will face the New York Jets this Saturday at noon at MetLife Stadium. The Commanders head coach, Dan Quinn, told reporters on Tuesday that Daniels will start against the Jets.

Terry McLaurin will be playing with the 11th quarterback of his career. McLaurin has been thrown passes from Kyle Allen, Taylor Heinicke, Alex Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Carson Wentz, Sam Howell, Case Keenum, Colt McCoy, Dwayne Haskins and Garrett Gilbert.

As he prepares for his sixth season in the NFL, McLaurin feels confident that Daniels can be a stable franchise quarterback based on what he's seen so far.

"Definitely trying not to put the cart before the horse," McLaurin said (h/t ESPN). "But he's come in and just been so prepared. I've played with a lot of first-time quarterbacks, and he plays like this is not going to be his first time playing in this league."

Jayden Daniels was the second quarterback taken in this year's draft, with the second-overall pick behind Caleb Williams. Daniels won the Heisman Trophy this past season after he threw 40 touchdowns, rushed for 10, and accounted for over 4,900 yards passing and rushing.
