Jets drop huge problem on Aaron Rodgers ahead of much-anticipated trade
All reports indicate that Aaron Rodgers is likely to be traded to the New York Jets during the 2023 NFL offseason. His time with the Green Bay Packers is likely to conclude as the franchise appears ready to move on to Jordan Love.
Rodgers is also rumored to desire playing for a new team in 2023, while the Jets have been actively searching for a veteran to replace Zach Wilson.
The Jets clearly believe that by upgrading their quarterback, they can put themselves in a position to potentially become Super Bowl contenders. They barely missed out on the NFL Playoffs for the 2022 NFL season. So, a massive step forward in the most important position in all of football will theoretically result in a significant boost to their outcome this year.
Aaron Rodgers will step into the situation under plenty of pressure as he's expected to bring the Jets to the next level in a historically demanding New York market. Garrett Podell of CBS Sports recently outlined just how desperate the Jets are to be relevant postseason contenders.
"Following the Sacramento Kings clinching a spot in the NBA playoffs on Wednesday night, it's Gang Green that now has the longest active playoff drought in North American professional sports — MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL — at 12 seasons. The Jets haven't reached the postseason since the 2010 season when their head coach was Rex Ryan, their quarterback was Mark Sanchez, and their top-10 defense was led by Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis."
It has also been more than 50 years since they went to a Super Bowl. While the franchise believes landing Aaron Rodgers will change all of that, his recent history suggests it may not be that simple.
Aaron Rodgers' recent struggles in the NFL Playoffs
The Green Bay Packers entered Week 17 of the 2022 NFL season in need of a victory against the Detroit Lions to punch their ticket to the NFL Playoffs. They failed to get the job done in what was essentially a playoff game.
This has become a recent trend for Aaron Rodgers as his postseason results have been disappointing since winning a Super Bowl ring more than a decade ago.
Since winning the ring for the 2010 NFL season, Rodgers has posted just a 7-9 overall record in the postseason. He has recorded multiple wins in just one playoff run since then, while failing to return to another Super Bowl.
While Rodgers clearly makes the Jets a better overall team, they may need to manage their expectations when it comes to playoff glory.
