Jets HC Robert Saleh shares take on joint-practice fights as NFL imposes $200,000 fines for Giants-Lions scuffle
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh shared an interesting take on joint practices after the New York Giants and Detroit Lions got into a fight during theirs. NFL teams often practice with another team in the lead-up to preseason games, but Saleh says he isn't concerned about doing joint practices.
The Jets are currently doing a joint practice with the Washington Commanders ahead of their preseason game on Saturday.
"#Jets are back on the field this morning for a joint practice against the #Commanders in Florham Park. Prelim for Saturday’s preseason opener. Saleh says he’s “not overly concerned” about fights. Giants and Lions paid a price. $200K apiece."
Even though the NFL is handing down hefty fines, Saleh isn't worried about his team fighting with the Commanders, as he believes joint practices are helpful.
The Jets will play the Commanders in their preseason opener on Saturday at noon ET.
Robert Saleh believes the Jets are poised for a breakout year
Robert Saleh and the New York Jets are coming off a disappointing season where Aaron Rodgers got hurt and they failed to make the playoffs.
Entering the 2024 season, Saleh has full confidence in his team that they will be able to have a breakout year.
"This year is gonna be fun. The pressure’s always gonna be there," Saleh added, via YardBarker. "We always feel pressure to win. Now, later, it doesn’t matter. As far as outside noise and creating the expectations and ultimatums and all that stuff, it doesn’t matter.
"It's an end result that we have no control over. What we have control over and the greatest expectation is to be our best every day and really that’s the biggest focus."
The Jets are -175 to make the playoffs, which implies a 63.6% chance of making it, as Rodgers is healthy after tearing his Achilles in the first game of last season.
Robert Saleh and the Jets will open the 2024 season on Monday Night Football on the road against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 9. Their home opener will be in Week 2 when the Jets host the Tennessee Titans.
