Jets QB Aaron Rodgers makes cryptic statement on retirement as 4x MVP prepares for training camp

Coming off a season-ending Achilles injury, Aaron Rodgers will enter his 20th season in the National Football League. The 2024 NFL season will also be his second year with the New York Jets. The four-time MVP will turn 41 in December and is uncertain about his retirement.

Rodgers was a guest on Monday's episode of Barstool's "Pardon My Take" podcast. When asked how many more years he has left in the tank, Rodgers said he was uncertain about his future beyond the 2024 NFL season.

"I don't know. I'm not sure. This one for sure. I wanted to do two good ones and to give us a chance to retire a Jet. And win two Super Bowls. Yeah [do the Kyle Orton]. Of course."

The Kyle Orton reference from Aaron Rodgers was about the former Buffalo Bills quarterback. Orton shocked his teammates and the NFL world by announcing his retirement abruptly and vanishing from the team facilities. He never came back after informing the media he would return to answer questions.

Rodgers initially mentioned playing two years for the Jets. Technically, the 2024 NFL season would mark his second season and Rodgers could hang up his cleats. The Jets QB could also mean he wants to go out and represent the franchise for two more years and compete for a Super Bowl.

Aaron Rodgers downplays missing out on Jets' mandatory minicamp

Aaron Rodgers faced backlash after missing the New York Jets' mandatory minicamp last month. Head coach Robert Saleh called Rodgers' Egypt trip an "unexcused absence" and the QB took issue with that.

Rodgers made his first public comments about his Egypt trip and his absence on the podcast. The Jets quarterback the minicamp and said they were glorified OTA practices. [From 0:46]

"They can arbitrarily put a tag on whatever week of OTAs they want. So, this is the minicamp week which makes it somehow more mandatory than the other weeks. But it was an OTA schedule, that's how you know words can be a little deceiving from time by time. You can make a story out the fact that I missed a mini-camp when it was really two OTA days. I came to the first 10."

The New York Jets will have their first training camp practice at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, New Jersey, on Thursday.
