Jets urged to curve Aaron Rodgers and go Dak Prescott route in 2023 NFL Draft with QB1 still undecided
The New York Jets are one of many teams this off-season that will be looking for a different quarterback for the 2023-2024 season.
The team is giving up on Zach Wilson after two terrible seasons after drafting him second-overall in the 2021 NFL draft.
Nevertheless, the team will once again be looking for a new franchise quarterback. The Jets have been linked to Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr this off-season.
They've been eyeing Rodgers ever since his name got brought up in trade talks, but are awaiting his decision. While getting Rodgers would be a huge score, some believe the Jets should explore other avenues.
Analyst Bomani Jones spoke with former NFL cornerback Domonique Foxworth and thinks the team should go for a younger guy like CJ Stroud.
Jones said:
"If I were the Jets, and I had to decide do I give up a package to move up to take CJ Stroud? Or do I take that same package to get Aaron Rodgers? Oh, yeah, I probably go take the youngster. Really? So that's that's First couple of things here one, I'm pretty high. Like I think that Stroud is going to be really good, right? I think we've seen rookie quarterbacks, Dak Prescott being an example, when coming into a situation where they are surrounded by talent, and you got to defense on the other side."
"You can do things in the short term, right while also playing for the long run, in a way where Aaron Rodgersrcross your fingers and hoping that you get something out of year two, because the thing for the Jets is, the Jets are not Aaron Rodgers away, they are a quarterback away."
The Jets would have to trade up this year's draft to acquire a quarterback
If the Jets were to try to acquire Rodgers, they'd have to give up a boat load for him. If the Broncos get multiple draft picks and players for Russell Wilson, then the Packers could have more leverage and ask for more.
Jones' idea insists that the Jets use those same assets to trade up for a guy like Bryce Young or CJ Stroud in the draft. This would make a lot more sense in many ways.
Rodgers is 39 years old and is also non-comittal for having an NFL future. They can get a young, cheap guy that's hungry, who could potentially be the a franchise QB of the future.
